Searching on the Web

Love searching the web for images and ideas. Often, you can find the wrong? or similar works…by the same or related artists. A painting I did recently reminded me of the muted tones in a certain Picasso painting. I hadn’t seen the image for a while but I knew of it. My search eventually led to not one but TWO related images by Picasso. Seeing the two together is interesting but I somehow prefer this one. I am not sure if it is because I saw this first or because the figures are without anything else. Literally. A change from contemporary images where many artists feel the need to include as many references and ideas as possible. Simplicity can be a good thing.
Such a simple idea and seemingly simply painted. The mono-chromatic colour with gestural brushwork are enough to make this painting work. The simplicity and innocence is enhanced by the central nature of the figures and relative lack of detail. Picasso makes it look easy, as always.
