MONA Museum of the Ordinary?

May 3, 2011
The MONA homepage

The recently opened MONA (Museum of Old and New Art) seems to struggle to place Tasmania on the greater Australian art gallery map.

The folly of an obviously wealthy (can you be too wealthy?private individual, it is a highly personal choice of artworks. While some appear to have merit, from other reviews, is it enough to draw the crowds?

Some of the works have warning of offensive images and many artworks are quite macabre. I have no problem with this but with a limited website and mysterious homepage my initial reaction is that it is quite a narrow market. Time will tell.

Does an individual’s choice of artworks and personal design from building to showing the works make it on the must do art list?
