Cropping, it’s OK

Just because you start out on a large of piece of paper in a portrait format doesn’t mean that ideas can’t change. In fact, just as I have been arguing over the months that a flexible and fluid approach is necessary, so too is the ability to crop or trim your work to make a better composition. Or even to hide the parts that are shall we say, less successful.
The above image is the result of cropping the bottom of the picture. While this may seem quite severe, I am hoping that the focus is now more on the raised legs and the play with depth in background-hair-breasts-arm. Together with the shadow behind her, I hope that the depth is still there.
There is a range of options in cropping - most useful is two large L shaped white frame-like pieces of paper to work out what amount should be cropped beofre actually trimming the artwork. Don’t worry, it’s OK to create a better work this way…see how you go.
